Discover the true heart of Scotland from the preserved historic village of Birnam. Situated on the banks of the River Tay, Birnam is home to the magnificent Birnam Oak the last remaining example of Birnam Wood so famous from Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Enjoy leisurely walks along the river and cross Telford’s Bridge into Dunkeld, the fort of the Celts, with its 15th century Cathedral. Tucked away in this beautifully restored cathedral town are a host of shops and many enticing places to eat from mouth watering kormas to traditional haggis’n’ neeps and Sunday roasts.
Nestling amid the thickly wooded hills of Perthshire, bird watchers will wonder at ospreys, buzzards and greater spotted woodpeckers while golfers can tee off at the challenging 18 hole Dunkeld Golf Course. Hill Walkers will find an array of terrain through heather clad hills and wooded dells minutes from the front door. Mountaineers and Munro baggers can scale the heights of Schiehallion and Ben Lawers half an hour's drive from Birnam. Fishermen can net a champion trout in the lochs and rivers a mere half a mile away, while those who enjoy more arduous river sports can try a spot of white water rafting, sailing, canoeing and kayaking all within a short distance of the apartment.
There are many activities for children including the Beatrix Potter Garden and Exhibition situated across the road in the Birnam Arts and Conference Centre. The centre is host to a programme of live music, theatre and visual arts. While the children are busy being creative the adults can enjoy a feast of homemade cakes, light lunches and speciality coffees. Going Pottie - a paint your own ceramics studio is another hit with the children.
